I was just contemplating my love for baseball. I was thinking if I could watch one major sport championship with or without “my team” playing which and why.

The World Series is by far the most dramatic of all. Every pitch and at bat is like a chess move. The highs and lows are just the most amazing experience.

For context I’m a St Louis Cardinals fan. When we were competitive every post season was amazing for the rivalries. Talking trash to Dodger fans and still finding joy in them losing this season as much as when we beat on Kershaw.

Now, my favorite part of the World Series is showing the fans at critical moments. The tense moments when the game is on the line. Sharing moments of despair or elation of what’s happening based off a singular moment.

I will forever love baseball and the World Series.

"Baseball is the best!" - baseball fan on the baseball sub

Surprising number of "baseball fans" who apparently disagree!

I’m a massive, massive baseball fan. But the Stanley Cup Playoffs will always be my favorite.

I just started typing that and then saw your comment about the box.

I saw Duncan Keith lose 7 teeth in the Stanley Cup Finals from a puck to the face and come back out and play after a little dental work. You don't get that in the finals of any other sport. And as has been pointed many times by others they do it all on ice with knives strapped to their shoes.

Exactly. I'm a baseball fan but nothing will ever beat the Stanley Cup playoffs. The physicality, the insane upsets, the ability to overcome consistently terrible officiating. The ability for these guys to play a 60 minute full game and then another 1-3+ periods of overtime on pure adrenaline is insane.

You guys like baseball too? I like baseball!

It’s ok to have different opinions

NHL playoffs is more tense tbh.

I will clarify and say that there's nothing in sports better than Stanley Cup Playoff Overtime. It's completely unmatched.

I'm not really a big sports person (just sorta stumbled in here), can you explain what sets the NHL postseason from others? I'm surprised to see near-unanimous agreement in the baseball subreddit that the hockey postgame is the best in sports lol

12. u/gamesk8er · 2026-10-27 16:28 UTC

Since hockey is a sport that is constantly moving (except whistles), there's a chance for a major play to happen at literally any time. Every series is 7 games and the games are usually very close and exciting.

On top of that, overtime in the playoffs is sudden death so you're on the edge of your seat the entire time because the game can end at a moment's notice.

That's awesome, thanks!

14. u/Flare_Bear · 2026-10-27 02:49 UTC

Yeah, I love baseball, but it ain’t even close.

Agreed

100%

I'm a baseball fan first and foremost, but there is nothing like the Stanley Cup.

18. u/VinPickles · 2026-10-27 02:26 UTC

i mean, i follow everything but the nba religiously (casual on that front) and this seems ludicrous to me. if you want a guaranteed single game for all the marbles? the superbowl is insanity. the poml and circumstance.

and the stanley cup final, requiring you to win 3 best of 7’s to get there and then a fourth 7 gamer to hoist lord Stanley is a two month long war of attrition that is unmatched on gods green earth.

So, good sir, i must disagree.

19. u/Garbanzo_Beanie · 2026-10-27 02:28 UTC

Because you mentioned NBA at all.

Not commenting on other sports, but NBA is only exciting in the last few minutes for me. And only if it's close.

It's the only sport I can't get into watching.

20. u/misplacedbass · 2026-10-27 02:34 UTC

The last few minutes of regulation end up being a half hour of back and forth fouling. I fucking hate basketball.
