Literally set a new postseason record for 0 runs allowed.
What does a middle reliever have to do to get World Series MVP? Pinch-hit for a walk-off HR?

I think Ashby was in the conversation but Contreras absolutely deserved MVP. He got 10/13 abs challenges, caught 4 stealing, had 4 rbis most of which were timely, and batted almost .400. There is no way you don't win it with all that. I did almost hope Pratt got it though, he was absolutely on fire the last two games.

Plus, what’s one common denominator between the greatest bullpen pitchers in baseball? Contreras calling the game. Hard to put a value on it

In addition, Ashby can't throw some of his filthy stuff in games 1 and 2 if he doesn't trust his catcher to block everything.
Not taking anything away from Ashby there, he knew Bill would stop it, but he (by design) skipped a lot of balls in the dirt in situations where a passed ball would have meant a blown save.

Yeah Bill was a big reason why the entire bullpen was so lights out

I loved how Contreras brought Ashby up during the MVP presentation and said, “Let’s share it!” Then Ashby gave all the credit to Bill.
Just an amazing group of guys this year

He reminds me more of yadi than any player I’ve seen since Yadi broke in to the bigs. I can’t think of a higher compliment

Yadi was one of a kind.. but I see what you are saying. Wild bill was excellent in all facets of the game during the run.

Last night a few low in dirt pitches caused tampa to swing too

I was thinking about a Coop MVP as well, but not only did Bill deserve it, Pratt was able to get a ring within 4 months of moving to the majors and I think that's more than fair lol

This year's MVP was graded on a curve. Several guys had a great series. Like Turang is way down the list but his defense was insane.

Only the 8th catcher in WS history to earn the award
14. u/NoPlansTonight · 2026-10-29 15:12 UTC
I think that stat is actually not very surprising?
There have been 122 World Series, and with 9 positions you'd roughly expect 13 players from each position to have won
8 is a bit low but seems par the course
15. u/vaz_deferens · 2026-10-29 15:31 UTC
The award wasn't a thing until 1955.
16. u/timbenj77 · 2026-10-29 17:28 UTC
So there's been 70 WS MVP awards, I think. Maybe 69... I know there was no WS in at least one of those years. So average per position would be about 5 or 6. So "only the 8th catcher in WS history..." is a bit misleading, as catchers get it more often than other positions.

Expos fans remember the ‘94 strike.

It is weirdly worded, for sure. There have been 14 OF, 8 SS, 8 C, 6 1B, 4 3B, 3 DH, 1 2B (two, if you count Zobrist, but he mostly played OF), and 30 P.

I had not taken all this into consideration, I thought it was low but seems to be one of the more awarded positions
stats are cool

He also has to juggle a dozen pitchers, he has great relationships with his team, countless times he is pumping up pitchers in the dugout
