"We want to win about 80-some games"
I'm Jerry Reinsdorf and I approve this message.

I think my husband might go to his grave MF-ing Nutting.

As we all should

Brewers owner basically said “it’s not my job to win a World Series.”
He’s just lucky he has a great front office.

Technically he’s not wrong. He supplies the funding and the front office makes the personnel decisions. A good owner knows when to stay out of the way.
8. u/ThisIsPureTrash · 2026-11-01 00:19 UTC
He meant that in a “I don’t care about winning it all” way.
This was the actual full quote. Our owner is a slimeball though, shame the win had to come under him - not that most owners are better or worse.

Sand Stealer is a piece of shit and seeing him be the first person to hold the trophy is infuriating. We won despite him, not because of him.

But the brewers have a pretty average payroll. Atleast they did this year I don’t know about historical data though

This was the first year since 2014 the Brewers have been ahead of the Rockies in payroll which is honestly incredible in so many ways

The Ricketts are also happy with this phrase. As long as they sell super expensive merch and get butts in seats for expensive beer they're fine with .500 seasons.

The Castellini's also approve.

I’d love my team to win 80 games

Fuckin Jerry man. Lost us one of the best up and coming broadcasters in the game too.

They need to not make that mistake again and go get Stephen Nelson (since Schriffen’s contract isn’t being renewed), who is currently the Dodgers PBP guy when Joe Davis is gone doing national TV (and did radio PBP when Steiner was getting cancer treatments)
Not only is he fantastic, he actually grew up a White Sox fan because his dad is from Chicago, and he’s young so he can hold the job and grow in it. I would miss him here but he really deserves to be a full time guy somewhere.

It’s an old Connie Mack quote that was supposedly attributed to reinsdorf
18. u/B0230 · 2026-10-31 23:42 UTC
Mack could have said it, but Rainsdorf did say that around 2000. Something along the lines of the best place to be is 2nd place in the division because you’re in the hunt and have sales, but not putting up the money needed to run away with the division.
19. u/Hotdog-44769 · 2026-11-01 01:40 UTC
One guy said reinsdorf said that in the 90s if I remember right. It’s not recorded or anything

To which Artie would have said, before he sold the Angels, "why so many?"
