Great! My guardians have to spend 100m more than they did in 2026 to meet the floor

Say hello to overpriced 38 year old FA #4

More like say hello to actually paying our homegrown talent in their prime instead of letting them walk or trading them for a minor leaguer named Bazooka Joe that ends up sucking

Joke’s on you, no one named Bazooka Joe has ever sucked

Depends on the ownership.
Shitty owners will continue to be shitty owners and overpay players while others will be able to pay players that fit the team

Agreed. Salary cap does not fix stupid.

By in their prime do you mean 35, injured, and with 5 years left on their deal?

The Mets Curtis Granderson Special

God forbid small market teams having rebuild years!

“Union officials have said players would lose more than $1 billion if they agreed to a cap, reflecting the chasm between the parties that could lead to a prolonged work stoppage.”
This is such a load of shit the Union is putting out there. The leagues proposals would spread money around the league more and more players would make more money. That “1 billion” the Union is pitching is a handful of players who could potentially lose. Having said that, THE LEAGUE IS PROPOSING A 50/50 REVENUE SPLIT. More money is coming into the game. If there isn’t baseball next year, it’s because of Bryce Harper, Max Scherzer, Carlos Rodon, and these mouthy mega millionaires who are insisting on keeping a system that got them their money but aren’t looking out for the dudes who will never sniff the types of contracts they got.

crazy to me this isnt a more common sentiment. a salary cap is realistically only going to affect the top like 5% of players, whereas the rest of the players would only benefit from this money being spread out.

It’s because it’s Reddit. It just has to be billionaire bad player good with no nuance.

MLBPA is an accurate reflection of society writ large. Looking out for the best interests of the top 1% and not giving a crap what happens to everyone else.

The top 1% of the MLB is who everyone tunes in to watch though. I don’t think Max Muncy is doing the same ticket or merch sales as Shohei Ohtani

I really don't think there should be a cap at all, but that's my opinion. It doesn't make any sense to me that players would ever agree to one

I’m a fan of the NFL and NBA where Caps are in place. A floor being included in this proposal from the owners makes this cap situation better than the NFL and NBA’s. A floor would avoid a situation like the Oakland A’s owner deliberately not spending on his roster to punish the city of Oakland until it gave him a new stadium built by taxes. A floor would make the billionaire ownerships around the league spend money on proud franchises like the Pirates, Royals, A’s, etc. The league’s proposing real fixes to a lot of the problems in the game right now.

In general, I don't think caps are horrible, as long as they have floors (which you can also have with the current lux tax, and which neither players nor owners pushed in the past).
Specifics of caps? The NBA's new second apron is wrecking the game there right now. I know, it was done to punish the Dubs. Silver should back off of it again, and NOW, not waiting until the next CBA.

Without protections like the other sports have... are the primary reasons small market owners can not spend on max type contracts. Its not just the cap, the PA is against many mechanisms owners in other sports have
