Minnesota Twins fan favorite Mitch Garver has reportedly called it a career after 10 seasons in the majors, according to minnesotasportsfan.com's Ted Schwerzler . Garver, 35, posted 8.0 fWAR, 10.0 bWAR and a 111 wRC+ over 702 big-league games. He hit 110 home runs and 324 RBI.
The Twins drafted Garver, 35, out of the University of New Mexico in the ninth round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He made his big-league debut with Minnesota in 2017 and played for the organization through the 2021 season.
Garver played a key role on the 2019 "Bomba Squad" team that set the single-season home run record (307), hitting 31 home runs while slashing .273/.365/.630 over 93 games. He posted 3.9 fWAR that year, nearly half his career total, and won the Silver Slugger Award for American League catchers.
Unfortunately, Garver dealt with many injuries over his 10 big-league seasons, which is why he appeared in just 701 games. Regardless, Garver had a solid career.
Following a forgettable pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Garver hit .256/.358/.517 with 13 home runs over 68 games in 2021. After his solid but injury-shortened 2021 season, Garver was traded to the Texas Rangers for right-hander Ronny Henriquez and utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who was then dealt to the New York Yankees along with third baseman Josh Donaldson and catcher Ben Rortvedt for infielder Gio Urshela and catcher Gary Snchez.
Garver struggled in his first season with Texas, posting a lowly .702 OPS over 54 games. He dealt with injuries in his second and final season with the Rangers but posted outstanding numbers, slashing .270/.370/.500 with 19 home runs and 50 RBI over 87 games. He helped the Rangers win their first World Series in franchise history, hitting .226/.317/.434 with three home runs, two doubles and 14 RBI over 14 playoff games in 2023.
Unfortunately, Garver's career went downhill after 2023. After he won the World Series with Texas, Garver signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Seattle Mariners . He hit just .187/.290/.341 in 720 regular-season plate appearances during the two-year contract. On the bright side, he went 2-for-7 with a triple, an RBI and a walk for Seattle in the 2025 playoffs.
Garver agreed to a minor-league contract with Seattle ahead of the 2026 season. After he slashed .175/.302/.294 with four home runs and 15 RBI in 50 games, Garver was designated for assignment and released in early August. He then agreed to a minor-league contract with the New York Yankees but never appeared in a major-league game with the team.
Congrats on a great career, Garver!
